Day 0: Leaving Mumbai – The Journey Begins
As the Avantika Express rolled out of Mumbai Central at dusk, city lights faded into the horizon. The rhythmic sound of the train and the thought of the sacred jyotirlingas ahead filled us with calm anticipation.
For a quicker start, you can fly to Indore (just 1 hr 15 min away), the nearest gateway to both temples.
Day 1: Omkareshwar – Where the Narmada Flows in Om

From Indore, a scenic 2-hour drive took us to Omkareshwar, a sacred island shaped like the holy “Om” symbol.
Crossing the river by boat, the Omkareshwar Temple greeted us with ringing bells, chants, and the fragrance of incense. Performing Abhishekam together was a moment of quiet bliss — one that felt both ancient and intimate.
We then visited Mamleshwar Temple, enjoyed a walk along the Narmada Parikrama, and savored local thalis before driving onward to Ujjain (4 hrs).
By evening, the serenity of Mahakaleshwar Temple awaited us under a starlit sky.
Stay: Overnight in Ujjain
Day 2: Mahakaleshwar – Time, Faith & the Bhasma Aarti

Our morning began at 4 AM for the divine Bhasma Aarti — an unforgettable experience where Lord Shiva is worshipped with sacred ash, symbolizing the eternal cycle of life and time.

After the darshan, we explored Harsiddhi Temple, Kal Bhairav, Mangalnath, and the peaceful Ram Ghat by the Shipra River.
As the sun set, we boarded the Avantika Express back to Mumbai — hearts full, souls lighter, and minds calmer.

Why We Loved This Trip
Sometimes, travel isn’t about chasing places but about finding peace.
Omkareshwar and Mahakaleshwar reminded us that journeys of faith can also be journeys of love — when shared with someone who believes in the same light within and beyond.
