The Timeless Charm of Hampi
There are places that steal your heart, and then there’s Hampi — a land that feels like poetry etched in stone. Once the grand capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, today it’s a surreal mix of ancient ruins, boulder-strewn hills, and tranquil riversides.

For us, Hampi wasn’t just another destination — it was a journey through time, where love, history, and serenity blend seamlessly. From golden sunsets at the lake to temple trails and coracle rides, every moment felt like stepping into a story.
Day 1 – Arrival & Sunset by the Lake
After a quick lunch near Hubballi Railway Station, we hit the road to Hampi — a scenic four-hour drive through Karnataka’s countryside.
By evening, we reached our stay at Sundown Hampi, a peaceful resort tucked away on the hippie side near Basapur. As dusk approached, we made our way to Sanapur Lake — a glassy, calm stretch of water surrounded by rugged boulders.
The sunset at Sanapur was breathtaking — the sky turned golden and pink, reflecting off the lake. It was the perfect slow beginning to our Hampi adventure. We wrapped up the evening with dinner under the stars, listening to the symphony of crickets and quiet waves.
Day 2 – The Sacred and Royal Trails of South Hampi
Morning began with a short coracle ride across the river — a beautiful way to reach Sacred Hampi.
We started at Virupaksha Temple, a living temple that has stood for over 1,300 years. From there, we wandered through Hemakuta Hill, Krishna Temple, and the Monolithic Ganeshas — each monument telling tales of devotion and artistry.
Lunch at Mango Tree Café was a highlight — delicious food, riverside views, and a gentle breeze that made us linger longer than planned.
In the afternoon, we explored Royal Hampi — the majestic Zenana Enclosure, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, and the Royal Enclosure with its Stepped Tank and Mahanavami Dibba.
We ended the day with a steep but rewarding climb to Matanga Hill, where the sunset painted the ruins in hues of amber and rose — one of the most magical views we’ve ever seen.
Day 3 – North Hampi & the Rhythm of Village Life
Day three was all about exploring Hampi’s quieter, more soulful side.
We began before sunrise with a hike up Anjaneya Hill, believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. Watching the first rays of light spill over the boulders was pure magic. After breakfast at Laughing Buddha Café, we explored Anegundi Village, Pampa Sarovar, and Chintamani Temple — tranquil spots where spirituality meets simplicity.
The afternoon brought us back to Sanapur Lake for a refreshing coracle ride, a dip in the cool waters, and a lazy lunch at Gopi Rooftop Café. We ended our day walking barefoot through rice paddies, surrounded by the hum of village life and fading sunlight.
Day 4 – The Stone Chariot Farewell
Our final morning in Hampi was reserved for the Vittala Temple, home to the legendary Stone Chariot and Musical Pillars — an architectural marvel that captures Hampi’s eternal grandeur.
On our way back, we made a brief stop at Talarigatta Gate, one of Hampi’s offbeat historical remnants. As we drove back to Hubballi, we couldn’t help but feel like we were leaving a piece of our hearts behind among those timeless ruins.
